An uninterruptible power supply, also known as a UPS, is a device that provides backup electrical power in case of a power outage. In Morocco, where voltage fluctuations and power cuts can occur, a UPS protects your sensitive computer and electronic equipment from damage and data loss, while allowing you to save your work or continue using your devices for a short period.

To determine the necessary power capacity, add up the total wattage consumption of all the devices you want to connect to the UPS (e.g., computer, monitor, modem, router). Choose a UPS with a VA rating at least 25% higher than this sum, or a Wattage rating that is at least 80% of the total consumption. Refer to the labels on your devices to find their consumption.

Off-line UPS are the most basic and only intervene during power outages. Line-interactive UPS also regulate voltage continuously. On-line UPS are the most powerful: they convert power constantly, offering optimal protection and perfectly stable power, ideal for servers and critical equipment.

The runtime of a UPS depends on its capacity (battery) and the consumption of the connected devices. Standard models generally offer between 5 and 15 minutes of runtime, which is sufficient to save data and properly shut down equipment. Models with external batteries are available for longer runtimes.

UPS are primarily designed to protect computer equipment (PCs, monitors, servers, workstations), network equipment (modems, routers, switches), and certain sensitive electronic devices (game consoles, high-quality audio/video systems). It is not recommended to connect high-consumption appliances such as heaters, freezers, or vital medical equipment, unless the UPS is specifically designed for them.

Yes, most modern UPS come with management software that you can install on your computer via USB. This software allows you to monitor the UPS status, battery charge level, and most importantly, to configure an automatic and controlled shutdown of your computer in case of a prolonged power outage, to prevent any data loss.
